Library Director
Meet Amy
Learn a little more about Amy McDermott, our library director.
I have been a resident of Onawa off and on throughout my life but Onawa has always been home to me as this is where my family is.
I have 2 children: Fallon and James, 2 wonderful grand babies, 2 rescue dogs and a cat!
I have always loved reading and always loved the library but never did I see myself as a library director. During a difficult time in my life, I was offered a position as Librarian's Assistant at the Onawa Public Library. I cannot think of a more amazing place to work! As my wonderful mentor moved towards retirement she began asking me to step into the position as Director. It took me a while to accept only because they were such big shoes to fill! She gave me the confidence and support to let me make a major change in my life and as of March 1, 2020 I moved into the position.
What a time to take over! Covid-19 may have slowed things down but the library continues to grow and provide support to the community. I am always proud to have visitors come in and say that they just had to stop in and see our building because it just drew them in or that we have been a help during trying times. Many changes are going on in Libraryland and I am thrilled to be able to have the backing of our community in keeping up with each and every change. I think this shows people who are contemplating a move to our area, just what a progressive community we are.
I am thrilled to see the Library grow and change and watch and work with the people who love it as much as I do.
